Each action in the Automator app has its own description that tells you what it does.
Automator is a robust, very powerful, automation tool which delivers a professional solution for working with Adobe Acrobats Portable Document Format (PDF) documents to your desktop. Creating a Folder Action. Open Automator and select New to create a new project. Select Folder Action and click Choose. And you’ll see the input at the top of the workflow is different again: Here you can choose the folder to apply this folder action to. From the dropdown menu select Other and go to the location you want your folder. Administrators must first install a fully localized base language version (see the table later in this section) of Office 2016, and then install the LIP. Users can then work in their preferred language in the following applications and features: Excel 2016. PowerPoint 2016. Shared Office features. Together with Applescript, Automator is the best automation tool a Mac user can have. It lets you automate anything, from repeating tasks such as batch renaming a large list of files to automatically backup you blog into a local folder.
In the Automator app on your Mac, click the action in the Library. A description of the selected action appears in the bottom-left corner of the Automator window.
If the description doesn’t appear, click the Show Description View button in the bottom-left corner of the window.
The description may contain the action’s required input, output, and result. Although some actions require no input or output, others have very specific input requirements, such as a specific type of file from a previous action. For example, an action that requires a graphic file for input can only follow an action in the workflow that has a graphic file as output.

If you need to make the same changes to multiple files—such as changing filenames or resizing images—or archive or back up important files, you can create a custom workflow and have your Mac do the work for you.

Script your own actions
If the task you need to automate isn’t in the list of built-in actions, you can add your own scripts, such as AppleScript and JavaScript scripts, and shell commands to your workflow. Simply add the appropriate run script action to your workflow and enter your script code or shell commands.
